Lost Season One

Destination Lost
Narrated in a linear fashion and culminating from the pieces of the back stories told over multiple episodes in the series, "Destination Lost" focuses on the flashbacks of a core of characters -- illustrating who they were and what they were doing before the crash, and how the island has changed their lives, for better or worse. In addition, the island itself will be explored - culled from events that have taken place - which may reveal some of its secrets that might have been missed upon first viewing.

Lost: Revelation

Pilot (1)
A sudden plane crash leaves 48 survivors stranded on a jungle island, forced to scavenge for survival from the wreckage of the plane. As they get their bearings and pin their hopes on a quick rescue, the band of strangers begin to learn the island holds deep and dark secrets. A group of strong-willed survivors: Jack, a surgical doctor; Charlie, a former rock star; and the enigmatic Kate venture into the dark heart of the jungle to try and recover the airplane transceiver. But even heroes have secrets, as the survivors will soon learn. The survivors of a plane crash have to get over the accident and collaborate to stay alive in a dangerous, mysterious island in South Pacific.
Pilot (2)
Having escaped the "creature" and retrieved the plane transceiver, a group of the survivors travel to higher ground so they can transmit a signal. En route, they receive a mysterious transmission and encounter another of the island's inhabitants. Meanwhile, back at camp, Jack tends to a wounded man who reveals a secret about Kate. As Jack, Kate and Charlie return from their little "trip", Sayid is trying to fix the radio. He goes together with Kate, Boone, Sawyer, Shannon and Charlie to find a high place so the radio will work... and in the way they have a meeting with a little island "magic" being. Meanwhile, back at beach, Jack tries to help the US marshal, and some more secrets are revealed... some who include Charlie's drugs and Kate's handcuffs.

Tabula Rasa
Jack and Hurley discover an alarming secret about Kate, as the marshal's life hangs in the balance and he suffers a lot of pain. Meanwhile Kate, Charlie, Sawyer, Sayid, Boone and Shannon ponder the mysteries they have begun to uncover and worry that telling the other survivors will cause panic. They decide to lie for the time being. Also, Locke's befriending of Walt disturbs Michael, but Walt is more concerned in finding his dog. Lastly, Kate flashes back to when she was arrested by the marshal in Australia. Kate, Charlie, Sawyer, Sayid, Boone and Shannon decide to keep the French transmission a secret from the other castaways not to alarm or panic them. Meanwhile, back at beach, Jack and Hurley find an incriminating mug-shot paper of Kate. A flashback to Kate's origins show the reason for her being in Australia: she was fugitive from the USA and stayed with a local farmer who turned her into the US Federal Marshall Mars whom was tracking her down. Also, Michael is disturbed by the friendship becoming between the weird-minded Locke and his son Walt who agrees to help Walt find his missing dog, Vincent.
Walkabout
The survivors are jolted awake in the middle of the night when wild island beasts (which are wild boars) invade the beach encampment. Kate and Michael join the mysterious Locke on a hunt for food -- and a shocking secret about Locke is revealed. On the hunt for food someone is injured. Meanwhile, some survivors are horrified by Jack's plan for the dead bodies still scattered among the wreckage -- he wants to burn them. Jack sees someone that's not there, and we find out that one of the survivors was not able to walk but now he can. After wild boars raid the beach camp in the middle of the night, the survivors find that they do not have any food and John Locke organizes a peccary hunting with Kate and Michael. Locke's background story reveals why he came to Australia on a spiritual retreat, and a miracle that happened to him after the crash. Meanwhile, Sayid builds some antennas, trying to locate the source of transmission of the French distress signal, and Kate offers to install them. Also, Jack decides to burn the bodies in the fuselage since they are attracting wild animals to the survivor's base, and Claire wants to make the eulogy for the survivors. Jack also talks to Rose, another survivor, about her depression over this current situation.
White Rabbit
Jack is nearly delirious from lack of sleep and struggles to overcome the haunting events that brought him to Australia and, subsequently, to the island. Meanwhile, Boone gets caught in a treacherous riptide trying to save a woman who went out swimming. A pregnant Claire's health takes a bad turn from lack of fluids, and a thief may have stolen the last bottles of water. Veronica Hamel guest-stars as Jack's mother, Margo. Also, Jack flashes back at 12 years old, to find himself on the playground in an altercation with a bully, who ultimately beats him up, and later learns a life lesson from his father. Jack sees his father on the island, and goes searching after him- and after a source of water. back at beach, Claire faints and the few bottles of water that were left are gone. Who took them? Sawyer? Jin?

House of the Rising Sun
Walt and the others are shocked when Michael is brutally beaten, but only the non-English-speaking Jin and Sun know the truth behind the attack. Meanwhile Kate, Jack, Sawyer and Sayid argue about where the survivors should camp -- on the beach, where they're more likely to be seen, or in a remote inland valley where fresh water abounds; and Locke discovers Charlie's secret. Troubles escalate when Jin attacks Micheal for no reason. Soon, another secret is revealed when Sun reveals to Michael that she actually speaks English and is afraid of her controlling and jealous husband. Meanwhile, Jack goes with Kate, Locke and Charlie to the water source, and comes up with an idea: to move all the castaways into the caves. Jack and Sawyer try to convince Kate to move into their side. Also, Locke finds out about Charlie's heroin addiction.
The Moth
Charlie begins a painful journey of withdrawal from drugs, surprisingly aided by Locke, whose true motive for helping Charlie is a mystery. Meanwhile, survivors struggle to find and free Jack when he's buried alive in a cave collapse, and someone might be secretly thwarting Sayid, Kate, and Boone when they enact a plan to find the source of the French transmission. Charlie Pace is obliged by John Locke to stay clean and feels the effect. Meanwhile, Sayid Jarrah, Kate Austen and James "Sawyer" Ford tries to triangulate the French distress signal through antennas to find where the transmission source is located. When the cave collapses burying Jack, Charlie rescues him and win his inner battle against the drugs.
Confidence Man
Shannon's inhaler runs out and Boone believes Sawyer has the remaining three in his stash. When Sawyer refuses to give them up, Jack and Sayid resort to torturing Sawyer until he agrees to reveal the location of the inhalers. In flashback we hear Sawyer's story and find he is not who he says he is. Shannon his having an asthma attack, and Boone is sure that Sawyer has her medications- but he won't give it. As Kate's way to deal with this situation doesn't work, Sayid takes things into his own hands... and IT WILL NOT end good.
Solitary
Sayid's life is placed in grave danger after he stumbles upon the source of the mysterious French transmission, the woman Danielle Rousseau (guest-star Mira Furlan). She was on the distress call and is found alive. Meanwhile, Hurley has a ridiculous plan to make life on the island a little more civilized. The plan involves golf clubs he finds in the debris, and it looks like it just might work. Lastly, we flash back to Sayid's childhood friend Nadia as well as his participation in hostage situations in Iraq. Ashamed with his behavior torturing Sawyer, Sayid Jarrah decides to leave the group of survivors and travel alone through the island, trying to find the source of transmission and map the place. He is arrested and tortured by the French survivor Danielle Rousseau (Mira Furlan) and recalls his beloved Nadia (Andrea Gabriel) back to his days years earlier in Iraq as part of the interrogation/torturer for the Republican Guard. Meanwhile, Hurley decides to get the survivors spirits up by getting up a golf course in a sunny field.
Raised by Another
Claire has a horribly realistic nightmare about her new baby being harmed or kidnapped. Flashbacks reveal Claire's backstory: the former boyfriend who got her pregnant, then abandoned her, and the psychic who convinced her to take the ill-fated flight that landed her on the island. Hurley is shocked and confused when he discovers that Ethan Rom (guest-star William Mapother), another plane crash survivor, does not appear on the flight manifest. Claire begins to have reoccurring nightmares which one night result in her turning up with bloody hands, which leads Charlie to find out what is really going on. However, Jack isn't sure that anything really happened. Meanwhile, Hurley finds the flight manifest and discovers something shocking about a certain passenger.
All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues
Survivors wonder why Charlie and Claire have been abducted - and by whom - and a search party ventures into the treacherous jungle to look for the pair. Suspicions focus on Ethan Rom (guest-star William Mapother), who, it was recently discovered, was not a passenger on the doomed flight. Jack battles inner demons relating to his father, while Boone and Locke discover another island mystery. Jack, Kate, Locke and Boone go after Ethan, Claire and Charlie. They separate, and while Jack and Kate confront Ethan, Locke and Boon find another mystery at the jungle. Flashbacks reveal more about Jack's past with his dad.
Whatever the Case May Be
Jack, Kate and Sawyer fight over possession of a newly discovered locked metal briefcase which might contain insights into Kate's mysterious past. Meanwhile, Sayid asks a reluctant Shannon to translate notes he took from the French woman. A rising tide threatens to engulf the fuselage and the entire beach encampment, and Rose and a grieving Charlie tentatively bond over Claire's baffling kidnapping. Kate and Sawyer discover a briefcase and the race begins to win ownership of it. Charlie is still depressed over Claire, and is given a sharp talking to by Rose.

Hearts and Minds
When Locke learns that Boone wants to share their "secret" with Shannon, Locke decides to teach him a lesson. This leads to Shannon's life being placed in what seems like peril. Boone and Shannon's dark past is revealed in a shocking backstory that recalls their relationship right before the plane crash and presages the return of the beast. Kate, who has become a confidante to the soft-spoken Sun, is puzzled by Sun's mysterious behavior and the revelation that she can speak English. A hungry Hurley must convince Jin to share his fish by making up for offending Jin by rejecting his offer of raw fish early on, or he'll continue to suffer digestive problems from the limited island diet.
Special
Violence ensues and a mysterious island beast makes a re-appearance when Michael and Locke clash over Walt's upbringing. Meanwhile, Charlie is tempted to read the missing Claire's diary, and Sayid enlists Shannon to help decipher the French woman's map. John Locke is teaching Walt Lloyd to throw knives, and Michael Dawson feels jealous with the situation. He forbids Walt to meet Locke, and recalls his romance with Walt's mother Susan Lloyd (Tamara Taylor), a overachieving executive who took the infant Walt away, and Michael having an awkward reunion 10 years later with the uncertain and spoiled Walt in Australia. Walt becomes upset with the situation and decides to hike with his dog Vincent into the woods. At the end, Locke and Boone Carlyle find Claire Littleton wandering in the forest.
Homecoming
After the missing Claire returns with no recollection of what has happened since before she boarded the doomed Oceanic flight 815, Jack and Locke formulate a plan of defense against her kidnapper, the mysterious Ethan (guest-star William Mapother), who threatens to kill off the other survivors one by one unless Claire is returned to him. Hurley and Sayid worry that Charlie is losing it after facing a brush with death and killing Ethan with 6 bullets to the chest. A shocking prior connection between Sawyer and Jack is revealed in a flashback which shows Sawyer meeting Jack's father in a bar. Robert Patrick ("Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "The X-Files") guest stars. James "Sawyer" Ford wakes up from a nightmare with a boar inside his tent. He finds his canvas in the woods, but is attacked by the animal. He decides to chase the boar with Kate Austen following its track in the forest. Along their hunting, Sawyer recalls his dark past since he was a child until his final revenge against the con man that destroyed his family.
...In Translation
When the raft the survivors have been building mysteriously burns down, Michael is convinced that Jin is responsible for the sabotage, which only serves to escalate their rivalry. Meanwhile, Sun stuns her fellow survivors with a surprising revelation, and Boone gives Sayid a warning about his step-sister Shannon. Lastly, more details of Jin and Sun's troubled marriage are revealed through. When Jin Kwon is having a serious quarrel with his wife Sun Kwon, Michael Dawson defends her. Later, when Michael's raft is set afire and Jin has his arms injured by heat, Michael and Sawyer blame him for the incident. Sun finally reveals her secret when she speaks in English to defend her husband and he feels ashamed leaving her. Jin recalls how his love for Sun was destroyed by her evil and unscrupulous father.

Adrift
With the abduction of Walt fresh on their minds, their raft destroyed, and Jin missing, Michael and Sawyer fight for their lives in the middle of nowhere in the ocean and discover a new predator in the roiling sea. Meanwhile on land, Locke must descend into the hatch when Kate goes missing inside. Also, Jack isn't too far behind Locke as he decides to go into the hatch as well later on. Lastly, flashbacks reveal more of Michael's troubled relationship with ex-lover Susan and their baby son Walt as they fight over custody for Walt and Michael must let go.

Hurley struggles with an assigned task inside the hatch as he flashbacks to disturbing memories in his life before the crash. Meanwhile, Sawyer, Michael and Jin learn the identities of their captors on the island. Claire uncovers a startling piece of information about the fate of the raft.

Michael sets off into the jungle by himself determined to find Walt, but discovers that he is not alone. Meanwhile, Sawyer and Jin are ordered by their captors to take them to their camp, and Sun frantically searches for her missing wedding ring. In flashbacks this episode reveals more of Jin's life before ending up on the island.
Abandoned
Sawyer's wound becomes life-threatening as he, Michael and Jin make their way through the interior of the island with the tail section survivors. Meanwhile, Shannon is once again haunted by visions of Walt.
The Other 48 Days
The harrowing first 48 days in the lives of the tail section survivors are revealed. Flashbacks reveal the point of view of Ana-Lucia, Mr. Eko, Bernard and Libby and other survivors as they landed on the other side of the island on the beach. As the days progress danger hits their camp as well when "The Others" start taking people against their will. As the survivors race inland, trying to stay a step ahead of The Others, they realize that someone among them wasn't on Flight 815.
Collision
Violence erupts when Ana Lucia and her group stumble upon Sayid and the other castaways on the island. Ana Lucia holds Sayid captive. Kate and Jack care for Sawyer when Mr. Eko brings him back to the camp himself. Flashbacks reveal Ana Lucia's troubled life as a cop.
What Kate Did
As Kate’s backstory continues, her original crime is revealed. She thinks something is haunting her through Sawyer. Locke and Eko make an interesting discovery about the film, and Michael has a mysterious encounter with the computer.
The 23rd Psalm
This episode will shed more light on why Eko took a mysterious 40-day vow of silence, and possibly information on his stick. Also, Claire begins to lose faith in Charlie after Eko begins to question him about the Virgin Mary statue, and Kate gives the recovering Sawyer a much-needed haircut.

The Hunting Party
Jack, Locke and Sawyer follow after a determined Michael after he heads into the jungle toward the dreaded "Others" in search of Walt. Meanwhile, Sun has a surprising reaction to Jin's desire to join the search party, and Hurley and Charlie commiserate over the age-old conundrum of "what women want."
Fire + Water
When Charlie's vividly surreal dreams lead him to believe Claire's baby, Aaron, is in danger, Locke suspects Charlie may be using again. Meanwhile, Sawyer encourages Hurley to act on his attraction to Libby.
The Long Con
Some of the island survivors fear that "The Others" may have returned when Sun is greatly injured during a failed kidnapping attempt at her plant garden. Also, the trust barrier becomes very thin between Locke and Jack in terms of locking up the guns and being kept safe. Meanwhile, Sawyer is an amused but highly interested bystander when tension escalates between Jack, Locke, Kate and Ana Lucia. When Jack purposely takes Sawyer's medication from him he pushes more in favor of helping Locke. Lastly, flashbacks reveal more of Sawyer's con artist past.
One of Them
After Sun is attacked, some of the survivors begin to think that one of the "other survivors" might be one of "The Others." When French woman Danielle Rousseau leads Sayid to a mysterious captive in the jungle, he becomes determined to find out if he is one of "The Others". Meanwhile, Sawyer discovers Hurley’s potentially devastating breach of the survivors’ trust and blackmails him into helping track an elusive island creature that won’t leave Sawyer alone.
Maternity Leave
A mysterious illness that baby Aaron suddenly contracts sends a desperate Claire, Kate and French woman Danielle to return to the same area where Claire was initially kidnapped. It is there where she believes she can find a cure for Aaron's illness. In the meantime, Jack and Locke are doing their best to keep their prisoner a secret from the rest of the survivors on the island.
The Whole Truth
Sun comes to the realization that she might be pregnant. She struggles on whether to tell Jin about the situation. Meanwhile, with no success from Jack or Sayid, Ana-Lucia is called in by Locke to interrogate the new prisoner Henry Gale to get more information out of him about the balloon that he and his wife supposedly landed on the island with.
Lockdown
When the hatch suddenly takes on a life of its own, Locke is forced to enlist the help of an unlikely ally to control the matter. Meanwhile, Ana Lucia, Sayid and Charlie go off into the jungle to find out the truth about Henry Gale and see if there really is balloon craft out there in the jungle that carried him and his wife to the island.
Dave
Libby lends a helping hand to Hurley to support him when he begins to think the island is having a strange effect on him. Hurley begins to see Dave (guest-star Evan Handler) on the island, who was his friend in the mental institution Hurley was in. Also, Locke's sense of purpose is shaken when the prisoner gives him new information about the hatch.

S.O.S.
Rose is surprisingly and vehemently opposed to Bernard's plan to create an S.O.S. signal; romantic sparks are rekindled between Jack and Kate when they trek into the jungle to propose a "trade" with "The Others"; and Locke begins to question his faith in the island.
Two for the Road
After finding an exhausted Michael in the forest, Jack and Kate bring him back to the main camp. When he finally wakes up, Michael has some new details about "The Others." Also, a lovestruck Hurley plans a date for Libby.

Mr. Eko has dreams about his brother leading him somewhere. He seeks Locke's help in finding a secret location, the "question mark." Meanwhile, Jack and the other survivors grapple with the horrific situation in the hatch with the death of Ana-Lucia and Libby clinging to life.

A determined Michael convinces Jack and several castaways to help him rescue Walt from "The Others." With Jack away, Locke is left in charge of the hatch and must decide if he should believe Henry and not push the button, risking everyone's safety. Meanwhile, the events that happened to Michael after he left are finally revealed. Meanwhile, Charlie struggles with Eko's decision to discontinue building the church.
Live Together, Die Alone (1)
After discovering something odd just offshore, Jack and Sayid come up with a plan to confront "The Others" and hopefully get Walt back. Meanwhile, Eko and Locke come to blows as Locke makes a potentially cataclysmic decision regarding the "button" and the hatch. Lastly, Desmond returns and he sheds some more light on his experience on the island in the three years prior to when Locke came down into that hatch.

Lost Season Three

A Tale of Two Cities
Jack, Kate, and Sawyer are prisoners of the mysterious "Others." After their captors drug them and take blood samples, they are held in separate areas. The camp leaders--Ben (Henry Gale), Mr. Friendly and a new woman, Juliet--try to make the castaways adjust to their new circumstances. Flashbacks reveal more about Jack's past with his father and his wife Sarah.
The Glass Ballerina
Sun and Jin's lives are put in danger when Sayid tries to locate Jack and the other missing castaways. Sayid also creates a plan in order to get the attention of the "Others" on the beach. Meanwhile, Henry (i.e. Ben) gives Jack an offer that is very tempting in exchange for his cooperation. Lastly, Kate and Sawyer must adjust to harsh conditions that are being forced upon them by "The Others."

Locke, Eko and Desmond are found scattered about the island after the implosion of the hatch. Locke receives a message from the Island asking him to fix the situation he caused. Hurley returns to the beach camp to report the imprisonment of Kate, Jack and Sawyer by the Others. Desmond has been fundamentally altered by the implosion, giving him a mysterious new power.
Every Man for Himself
The Others prevent Sawyer and Kate from escaping, leaving Sawyer perplexed by the extent of the measures taken to keep them imprisoned. Jack is asked to use his medical training to save the life of one of the Others. At the beach, Desmond's strange behavior attracts attention. He begins to construct a mysterious device.

As Kate and Sawyer journey back to the main island with Karl, who is exhibiting effects of the brainwashing video, they argue over whether to go back and save Jack. On Hydra island, as Juliet's fate rests in his hands and a power struggle within the Others ensues, Jack recollects the time he spent in Phuket, Thailand and his relationship with Achara, a mysterious tattoo artist.
Tricia Tanaka is Dead
Kate is still struggling over their decision to leave Jack in the hands of the Others as she and Sawyer return to their camp. Meanwhile, Hurley finds an old van in the jungle and attempts to use it to help a fellow survivor in need of faith and hope. Flashbacks reveal more of Hurley's tumultuous past with the numbers curse.
Enter 77
On their mission to rescue Jack, Kate, Sayid, and Locke stumble upon a mysterious structure surrounded by farm animals and meet its strange inhabitant. Back at the camp, in order to reclaim his belongings, Sawyer plays in a ping-pong competition.
Par Avion
Claire has an idea to send a message to the outside world. Charlie, however, is resistant to the idea, and Desmond tries to sabotage the plan. As Claire tries to get the truth behind their actions out of the pair, she remembers traumatic events from her past. Meanwhile, the rescue party encounters a dangerous obstacle.
The Man From Tallahassee
When Kate and Locke arrive at the Others' camp, Ben promises to tell Locke the island's secrets as long as he stops his destructive plan, and Kate's reunion with Jack doesn't go very well when she learns that the Others have offered him a deal. More of Locke's troubled past is revealed.
Exposé
When both Nikki and Paulo apparently die, the rest of the castaways try to figure out what happened to them. In the course of the investigation, the truth about Sun's "kidnapping" comes to light. Flashbacks show what Nikki and Paulo were doing before the crash and why they kept to themselves afterwards.
Left Behind
The Others are vacating their home, and one of the castaways is leaving with them. Kate is knocked out and wakes up in the jungle handcuffed to Juliet. Kate is determined to return to get Jack, while Juliet believes she has been abandoned. The two have to work together in order to survive. Flashbacks show how Kate tried to reconcile with her mother. Meanwhile, Hurley informs Sawyer that a vote will be held on whether or not to banish him. The two concoct a plan to get everyone to like Sawyer so he can stay.
One of Us
Jack returns, but no one is in the mood for celebrating when they see that Juliet has come back with him. As Juliet struggles to find a way to be accepted, flashbacks show how she came to the island and what she was doing during those three years. She sees a chance to help when Claire suddenly develops a dangerous illness, but Sawyer and Sayid are reluctant to trust her.
Catch-22
Desmond convinces Hurley, Jin, and Charlie to follow him on a trek through the jungle after he receives a series of visions. Flashbacks reveal the time that Desmond spent with a cloister of monks. Meanwhile, a despondent Kate turns to Sawyer for companionship after seeing Jack and Juliet together.
D.O.C.
Sun learns what happens to pregnant women on the island. Juliet takes her to the Staff in order to learn the baby's D.O.C. (Date of Conception). If the baby was conceived on the island, then Sun only has two months to live. But if it was conceived before the crash, it means the baby is Jae's. Sun recalls how she learned about Jin's parents. Meanwhile, the woman who dropped from the sky is dying, and Desmond and Charlie clash as an adversary arrives who can help her.
The Brig
After abandoning the Others, Locke takes Sawyer on a trek through the jungle to help him eliminate a common enemy. Meanwhile, back at the beach, the parachutist Naomi has crucial information about flight 815.
The Man Behind the Curtain
Locke confronts Ben and demands that Ben take him to Jacob. Ben complies, but the answers Locke receives are not what he expected. Ben remembers his childhood on the Island, revealing the history of the Dharma Initiative and how the Others came to power. Meanwhile, Juliet's deception is revealed back at the beach, but her and Jack's reactions are quite unexpected.
Greatest Hits
Charlie makes a list of the best moments of his life. Once again, Desmond has foreseen his death, but this time Charlie decides to face it head on. Jack devises a plan to fight back when the Others arrive, but unexpected developments jeopardize everything. Sayid discovers a way to contact Naomi's ship, but it requires a sacrifice. Everyone is on edge, as the first major confrontation with the Others approaches.

Through The Looking Glass (1)
The ambush for the Others goes awry and ends with Sayid, Jin, and Bernard getting captured. Ben is informed of Charlie's presence in the Looking Glass station and sends Mikhail to "clean up" the situation. He then embarks with Alex to meet the survivors heading for the radio tower. In spite of increasing concern amongst the survivors, Jack resolutely continues on their trek. Flashbacks show him at a very low point of his life, where he is suicidal and drug addicted.
Through The Looking Glass (2)
Ben confronts Jack, claiming that Naomi is not who she seems. Meanwhile, Sawyer and Juliet try to come up with a plan to rescue the hostages at the beach. Inside the Looking Glass, Charlie and Desmond struggle to find a way to shut off the blocking signal.

Trivia For Lost

Jorge Garcia missed his sister's wedding to shoot this show in Hawaii.

The first season depicts the first 44 days on the island. Locke mentions this when talking to Desmond inside the hatch.

The song played by Desmond in the final minutes before the islanders open the hatch is "Make Your Own Kind of Music" by Mama Cass, and the song listened to by Juliet in season 3 is "Downtown" by Petula Clark. However, the CD case Juliet pulls the disk from is from The Talking Heads' "Speaking in Tongues" album.

Parts of the plane were used as percussion instruments and can be heard in the soundtrack.

ABC opted not to fly the intact N783DL to Hawaii first before dismantling it. Instead, ABC dispatched 40 production workers to Mojave to cannibalize and ship the aircraft pieces. Dismantling took about 5 days in February 2004.
The Airline in this show that flew the ill-fated flight is called "Oceanic" this Airline name has been used before in Executive Decision (1996), and has also been used in many other made-for-TV movies.

The airplane pieces on the beach, depicting the doomed flight from Sydney, are the remnants of a Lockheed Tristar L-1011. She began service for Eastern Airlines (N308EA) in 1972 and was retired by Delta Airlines (N783DL) in 1998 having racked up a total of 28,822 landings and 58,841 flight-hours.

N783DL was bought by Thompson's Aviation Warehouse (Mojave, CA) for $50,000. ABC/Touchstone purchased it for about $200,000.

The first episode debuted on ABC with 18.65 million viewers. The second episode attracted 16.33 million viewers.

Hurley uses the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42 to win the lottery. During the season 1 finale, as Hurley drives to the airport, the numbers appear on the dashboard as the car stalls. Running to the gate, he passes a girl's soccer team with the same numbers on their uniform jerseys. They also appear on the hatch exterior and the vial Desmond uses for injection.

4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 all added together equal 108, the total of minutes left to enter those very numbers into the computer each time.

Jennifer Jason Leigh was approached to play the part of Libby, but she declined

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje came up with his own characters name, "Mr. Eko", while he and the writers were developing the character.

'Yoon-jin Kim' originally read for the character of Kate. The producers felt she was not what they were looking for but decided to create a new character for her along with her character's spouse.

During Charlie's heroin scenes, Dominic Monaghan is actually snorting brown sugar.

Charlie's shoulder tattoo reads "Living is easy with eyes closed". This is a lyric from the song "Strawberry Fields Forever" by The Beatles.

The rocks used in the waterfall cave set are made of rubber so that the sound of the actors, and crew members walking about are not picked up on camera.

The part of Charlie was originally written for someone much older, but when Dominic Monaghan auditioned, the writers and producers loved him so much that they set about re-writing the part to Dominic's strengths.

Plane wreckage scenes were filmed at Mokuleia Beach.

The majority of post-pilot beach scenes are filmed along a more remote, secluded stretch of Oahu's famous North Shore. The sandy shoreline is not private but the access is off the beaten path.

Jungle scenes depicting open, grassy pasture areas at the foot of jagged cliffs were filmed in Kaaawa Valley (first season).

Mokuleia Beach is near Oahu's northwest tip (Kaena Point). Kaaawa Valley is over 30 miles away on the island's eastern coast.

The sound stage where the cave scenes are filmed is at the old Xerox building.

Vincent, the dog, is actually played by a female dog, whose name is Madison.

The symbol that Claire wears around her neck is the Japanese kanji for "love".

The symbol on Boone's shirt is the Chinese symbol for the number 84. Reversed the number is 48, The exact number of Survivors when the plane first crashed.

The shirt that Sawyer wears that has a fish on it is from an actual restaurant. One of the show's creators went to Humpy's in Alaska and liked the logo so much he wanted to use it on the show. They didn't get permission to use it until much later so they took the logo from the site and made their own. No one at Humpy's knew how it got onto the show until much later.

ABC picked up the show before there even was a script. J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof had only turned in an outline and based on this ABC picked up the show.

James Cash lost the part of Jack Shepherd to Matthew Fox at the final auditions.

When Jin is at the house of the person he is meant to kill (but only beats him up) Hurley is on the television behind him. If you look (extremely) carefully you can see that he is wearing the grey shirt that he is wearing when the television cameras show up at the petrol station later on in the series

'Jorge Garcia' was the first person cast for the series.

Originally Sawyer was supposed to be an older con man from Buffalo, NY. When Josh Holloway auditioned the producers were so impressed with him that they changed the character to a younger Southern man.

Originally, Michael Emerson was only cast for a few episodes in season two. The producers were so impressed with his performance that they cast him as a regular and rewrote the part of Henry Gale/Ben to feature him more prominently.

Charlie was in a band called Drive Shaft. Their only hit was called "You All Everybody". That song can be heard in the background of an episode of Alias, another show created by JJ Abrams.

The number 42 is the last number in the series of mysterious numbers that is central to the plot of Lost. In the X-Files, Agent Mulder saw Edward D. Wood Jr.'s Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959) 42 times. He also lives in apartment number 42. 42 is the answer to life, the universe, and everything from Douglas Adams's _"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"(1981)_ .

Michael Keaton was considered for the part of Jack, but turned it down. Had he accepted, he would have been killed off in the pilot episode.

The very first scene filmed on the show was the one in the pilot episode when Charlie was confronted by Cindy, the flight attendant, seconds before the plane crashed. Kimberley Joseph who played Cindy, spoke the very first lines of the show's production.

Evangeline Lilly was one of the last actors to be found for the show, but since she is Canadian, the producers weren't sure if she would be able to play the part. They pushed back all of Kate's scenes when they where shooting the pilot, just to be sure that they could get a green card for Lilly. It wasn't until they had shot almost every scene without the Kate character that Evangeline Lilly was finally granted a green card and signed on. The same day Lilly was put on a plane in Canada and went directly in to shooting.

Josh Holloway was trying to cover up his Southern accent while he was shooting several of his first scenes in the first season. It wasn't until director J.J. Abrams told him that the reason they cast him was BECAUSE of his accent that Holloway changed it. There are still some scenes left in the pilot where Holloway doesn't use his Southern accent.

In the original description for Kate, she was a slightly older woman separated from her husband, who went to the bathroom in the tail-section of the plane. However, that idea ended up being used for the character Rose.

Eko was originally to be named "Emeka".

The character of Sawyer was originally meant to be a slick, suit-wearing city con artist. However, when Josh Holloway forgot a line at his audition and subsequently kicked a chair in frustration and loudly swore, the writers liked the edge he brought to the Sawyer character and decided to write Sawyer as more of a Southern, darker grifter instead.

Jorge Garcia, Matthew Fox, and Dominic Monaghan all auditioned originally for the part of Sawyer as the other characters had not been developed at the time.

'Yoon-jin Kim' originally thought that Sun was too stereotypical and submissive, but agreed to take the role after being convinced by series co-creator J.J. Abrams.

Although in the Lost cast list Sun-Hwa is listed as having her husband last name of Kwon, it is highly unusual for Korean women to take their husband's last name.

Executive Producer Carlton Cuse does the narration for the advertisements for The Hanso Foundation.

John Locke was an English philosopher in the 1800-century, who described the human being as "tabula rasa" - translated "unwritten sheet" or "empty canvas", at birth. It is obvious that the creators of ‘Lost’ were inspired by this when creating the character Locke.

The series began development in January 2004 when Lloyd Braun, then head of ABC, ordered a script that fused the concepts of the film Cast Away (2000) and the popular reality TV show "Survivor" (2000). Braun was unimpressed with the initial effort and the subsequent rewrite so he contacted J.J. Abrams whose series "Alias" (2001) was a hit for the network. Although initially hesitant, Abrams gave it a go in collaboration with Damon Lindelof. Their script was greenlit but because it had been commissioned so late in the 2004 development cycle, it was heavily bound by tight deadlines. Ironically, Lloyd Braun was sacked by ABC's parent company, Disney, before the pilot aired for greenlighting such an expensive and risky project.

The two-part pilot episode was the most expensive in ABC's history, reportedly costing between $10 million and $14 million. The average pilot is usually in the region of $4 million.

When the show first aired in the UK on Channel 4, it averaged over 6 million viewers. This made it the most successful debut for a US series on the channel.

In France, it is known as "Lost: Les Disparus". The additional French tag is due to a governmental ruling that imposes the use of French in all titles.

Each episode -- other than the pilot -- covers 48 hours on the island.

The only member of the principal cast who didn't have to audition for a role was Terry O'Quinn, with whom J.J. Abrams had previously worked on the second season of "Alias" (2001).

The ornate tattoos on Jack's shoulder are Matthew Fox's own.

The original name of Charlie's band was The Petting Zoo. This had to be changed, however, when it transpired that there really is a band called The Petting Zoo.

The fateful journey, Oceanic Flight 815 (Sydney to Los Angeles), flew on September 22nd 2004. This was the pilot episode's airdate on US television's ABC network.

Locke: It's never been easy!
Kate: Maybe you should just do it.
Jack: No...
[less convinced]
Jack: It's a button.
Locke: [pleading] I can't do this alone, Jack... I don't want to.
[echoing the word of his former girlfriend]
Locke: It's a leap of faith, Jack.


Kate: I can take care of myself
Sawyer: Yeah, real good care...
[shouts]
Sawyer: Me Kate. Me throw rock.


Charlie: Kate, there's a certain gargantuan quality about this thing!


Locke: You're having a bad month.


Charlie: Well, aren't you the pessimist?


Charlie: [as Jack fiddles with the transceiver] Anything?
Jack: [with a slight chuckle] You keep asking if there's anything.
Charlie: Pardon me for appearing desperate, but before the pilot was
[shouts]
Charlie: ripped from the cockpit,
[normal voice]
Charlie: he did say that no-one's going to find us unless we get that transceiver working. So... is there anything?


[repeated line]
Locke: Don't tell me what I can't do.


[talking about the gun]
Shannon: You need to carry that all the time?
Sayid: I only carry it because I have someone to protect.


Charlie: She's got a bit to learn about being a mom. Responsibility, y'know.
Locke: Hmm. Now that's an interesting thing to say for a heroin addict.
Charlie: Recovering addict.


[Sawyer's just fainted and Michael runs to check on him]
Michael: Hey, Sawyer! You okay?
Sawyer: [faintly] I would've left you behind.
Michael: Shut up man, don't try that.
Sawyer: [even fainter] I did leave you behind.
Michael: Yeah well, good thing I ain't you.

[Shannon falls]
Sayid: Are you okay?
Shannon: Do not help me up!
Sayid: Let's go back.
Shannon: Why don't you believe me? I need you to believe in me.
Sayid: I do believe in you.
Shannon: You don't! No-one does. They think that I'm some kind of joke. They think I'm worthless.
Sayid: Shannon you are not worthless.
Shannon: You say that now, but you don't... You're just gonna leave me. I know as soon as we get out of here you're just going to leave me.
Sayid: I will never leave you. I love you. I believe you.
Shannon: You do?
Sayid: I do.


Kate: [Sawyer's chopping wood] What do you want?
Sawyer: 'Scuse me?
Kate: What do you want, Sawyer?
Sawyer: Freckles, I got so many answers to that question, I wouldn't even know where to start.
Kate: What do you want for the inhalers?
Sawyer: Ah - good question.
[goes back to chopping wood]
Sawyer: Hang on a tick. What do I want?... Kiss oughta do it.
Kate: What?
Sawyer: A kiss. From you, right now.
Kate: I don't buy it.
Sawyer: Buy what?
Kate: The act. You try too hard, Sawyer. I ask you to help a woman who can't breathe, and you want me to kiss you? Nobody's that disgusting... I've seen you, ya know.
Sawyer: Seen me what?
Kate: With that piece of paper. The one you keep in your pocket. Seen the expression on your face when you read it. How carefully you fold it up. Means something to you. So you can play games all you want. But I know there's a human being in there somewhere. Give me the medication.


Claire: [looking at the scratch on Danielle's arm, remembering fighting her in her sleep] When did I do that to you?


[Jack's explaining his "excuse" for his tour de stade after injuring his ankle]
Jack: Just trying to work a few things out.
Desmond: Ah, a girl, right?
Jack: A patient.
Desmond: Ah, but a girl patient. What's her name?
Jack: Her name's Sarah.
Desmond: What'd you do to her, then?
Jack: Do to her?
Desmond: You must have done something worthy of this self-flagellation.
Jack: I told her... I made her a promise I couldn't keep... I told her I'd fix her and I couldn't. I failed.
Desmond: Right. Just one thing - what if you did fix her?
Jack: I didn't.
Desmond: But what if you did?
Jack: You don't know what you're talking about, man.
Desmond: I don't? Why not?
Jack: Because with her situation that would be a miracle, "brother."
Desmond: Oh, and you don't believe in miracles?
[Jack laughs and shakes his head]
Desmond: Right. Well then, I'm going to give you some advice anyway. You have to lift it up.
Jack: Lift it up?
Desmond: Your ankle. You have to keep it elevated. It's been nice chatting.
Jack: Jack.
Desmond: Jack, I'm Desmond. Good luck, brother. See you in another life, yeah?

[after meeting Danielle]
Hurley: [to Sayid] She says hey.


Locke: [to Sayid] Okay, I'll tell you something you *don't* know.
Sayid: Please do.
Locke: The first week after the crash, there was a cave-in. Jack was trapped. Do you remember that?
Sayid: Of course.
Locke: You, Kate and Sawyer went out into the jungle to triangulate a signal.
Sayid: [suddenly worried] Yes.
Locke: You were hit from behind, knocked unconscious. When you woke up, the transceiver, your equipment was destroyed.
[long pause as both men look at each other and Sayid realizes what Locke is telling him]
Locke: That was me.


Sun Kwon: I don't think I've ever seen you angry.
Locke: [chuckles] Oh, I used to get angry - all the time, frustrated, too.
Sun Kwon: You're not frustrated any more?
Locke: I'm not lost any more.
Sun Kwon: How did you do that?
Locke: The same way anything lost gets found - I stopped looking.


Sawyer: I saw a guy lying there with an ankle holster. So I took the gun. Thought it might come in handy. And guess what?
[shouts]
Sawyer: I just shot a bear!


Sawyer: Who are they?
Michael: Don't worry, they're cool. They believe that we were on the flight too.
Sawyer: Well, now... we can sue Oceanic together, can't we!


Sawyer: Howdy, boys. Thanks for the rescue.
Michael: Everything's cool. We had a talk and they believe we were on the plane, too.
Sawyer: Swell, I guess we can all sue Oceanic together.


Sawyer: [about the survivors of plane's tail-end] I think they're gonna eat us.


Sawyer: [after pulling the bullet out of his arm] You got a band-aid?


Mr. Artz: And then my third wife, she says - get this - she says, "I didn't sign up for this". Now you tell me, what the hell is that even supposed to mean?
[Hurley doesn't reply]
Mr. Artz: What, am I boring you?
Hurley: Huh?
Mr. Artz: You know what? I'm sorry. I'm sorry I'm not cool enough to be part of your merry little band of adventurers.
Hurley: What?
Mr. Artz: I know a clique when I see it. I teach high school, pally! You know, you people think you're the only ones on this island doing anything of value. Well, I've got news for you. There were forty other survivors of this plane crash and we are all people, too.
Hurley: Okaaaaay...


Jack: [after Locke threw a knife into a seat, narrowly missing Sawyer] You must be either a very good aim...
[looks back at knife & Sawyer]
Jack: ... or a very bad aim.

[Sawyer has been complaining about headaches; Jack is examining him, and Kate is watching]
Jack: Have you ever had sex with a prostitute?
Sawyer: What's that got to do with anything?
Jack: Is that a yes?
Sawyer: [begrudgingly] Yes.
Jack: Have you ever contracted a sexually transmitted disease?
[Sawyer glares at him]
Jack: I'll take that as another yes. When was the last outbreak?
Sawyer: Go to hell, doc.
[leaves]
Kate: I know he deserved it, but...
Jack: He needs glasses.


Jack: Stand up.
Sawyer: Why, you wanna see who's taller?


Jack: You picking up a little Korean there, Michael?
Michael: Yeah, I'm pretty sure I know how to say "faster" and "idiot".


Hurley: Dude, what d'you want from me?
Charlie: What do I want? I want to know what we're doing in the middle of nowhere! And don't tell me it's because of some stinking batteries. One minute you're happy-go-lucky, good-time Hurley, the next you're Colonel bloody Kurtz!


Charlie: I know food is scarce, but your shirt?


Sawyer: [after offering Claire some fish] She likes me.


Boone: Theresa fell down the stairs. Theresa fell up the stairs. Theresa fell down the stairs. Theresa fell up the stairs. Theresa fell down the stairs...


Sawyer: My uncle died of a brain tumor. Does that run in the family?
Jack: What kind of tumor was it?
Sawyer: The kind that kills you.

Hurley: [to Sawyer, commenting on his glasses] Dude! Looks like someone steamrolled Harry Potter!


Jack: [to Kate about Sawyer] All I'm going to get out of him is a snappy one-liner and if I'm real lucky, a brand new nickname.


Boone: [to Locke] John? You been using that wacky paste stuff that made me think my sister got eaten?


Locke: [in front of an unopenable hatch] I did everything you wanted me to! Why did you do this to me!
[a light shines through a window in the hatch]


Kate: Somebody's in there.
Jack: Sawyer.
Sawyer: Right behind ya, jackass.


Charlie: Guys, where are we?


Henry Gale: God doesn't know where we are, John. He can't see this island any better than the rest of the world can.


Charlie: Does anyone have any sunblock?


Hurley: 4,8,15,16,23,42,4,8,Were dead. 4,8,15, Were doomed and Dead. 4,8,15...
Kate: Hurley are you ok?
Hurley: Hu? Oh, ya, awsome. I just, um, have to pee.


Hurley: Great idea dude, go look inside the burning death hole.

Sawyer: You're just not looking at the big picture, Doc. You're still back in civilization.
Jack: Yeah? And where are you?
Sawyer: Me? I'm in the wild.


Hurley: Um, I'm not so good around blood.
Jack: Just close your eyes.
Hurley: Dude... dude... oh dude...
[faints]


Jack: I think I'm going crazy.
Locke: Oh, you're not going crazy.
Jack: No?
Locke: No, crazy people don't know they're going crazy, they think they're getting saner.


Locke: [after Boone has had a vision of Shannon dying] How did you feel when she died?
Boone: I felt... I felt... I felt relieved.


Sawyer: Who got taken by what?
Walter 'Walt' Lloyd: Charlie and Claire. I think Ethan took 'em.
Sawyer: Ethan took 'em, huh?
Walter 'Walt' Lloyd: Yeah.
Sawyer: Took 'em why? And who the hell's Ethan?


Boone: What do you do in the real world, Mr. Locke?
Locke: It's John.
Boone: John.
Locke: Why don't you guess?
Boone: Well, you're either a taxidermist or a hitman.


Jack: Look, we don't have time to sort out everybody's god.
Charlie: Really? Because last time I checked we were positively made of time.


Rose: My husband is not dead.
Jack: Rose, he was in the tail section of the plane. It broke off in mid-flight. I'm sorry, but everyone who was in the rear of the plane is gone.
Rose: They're probably thinking the same thing about us.

Sawyer: [Sawyer confronts an injured Sayid in a cave a few days after Sayid had tortured Sawyer for some information] Well, now, I don't know if you Muslims have a concept of karma but it seems to me this island just served you up a heaping plate of cosmic payback.


Charlie: [counting] One sugar plum fairy, two sugar plum fairy...


Sawyer: So how's it feel?
Boone: How's what feel?
Sawyer: Taking my place on top of everyone's Most Hated list.
[after a cheeky pause]
Sawyer: Sucks, don't it?


Hurley: For the record, my belt HAS dropped a notch. I'm a big guy. It's gonna be a while before you're going to want to give me a piggy back ride.


Sawyer: What are you going to do, splash me?


Shannon: [after Hurley informs her Claire has been attacked] What? I am so not moving to the rape caves!


Boone: I don't think I could even spell trebuchet.
Locke: It has a "t" on the end.


Michael: This is a problem, man.
Jack: Yeah.
Michael: I mean, I know what I'd do, but... it's gotta be your call.
Jack: Okay. Give me a seven iron.


Jack: We tracked Ethan once! We can do it again!
[Charlie nods]
Locke: You *both* seem to forget how that went.
[looks at Jack]
Locke: He bested you physically.
[looks at Charlie]
Locke: And he hung you from a tree!

Charlie: They'll find us. They have satellites in space that can take pictures of your license plate.
Sayid: If only we were all wearing license plates.


Locke: Hey, do you mind if I ask you something?
Walter 'Walt' Lloyd: What?
Locke: Why did you burn down the raft, Walt?


Charlie: [to Claire] And this is where you sleep.
[pause]
Charlie: It's quite cozy, isn't it?


Charlie: Hmm. I have this dream. I'm driving a bus, and my teeth start falling out. My mum is in the back, eating biscuits. Everything smells of bacon. It's weird. 'Course I don't wake up screaming.


[Boone has taken the gun from Sawyer and Sayid to stand watch]
Sayid: Give it back to me.
Sawyer: Oh, yeah. Give it to Al Jazeera. He'll protect us.
Charlie: Al Jazeera's a network.


Sawyer: [about Sayid] Didn't you hear what Abdul here picked up on his radio?


Hurley: Okay, that thing in the woods, maybe it's a monster, maybe it's a pissed-off giraffe. I don't know.


Jin Kwon: Boat.


Hurley: So... I was just looking inside the fuselage, it's pretty grim in there. Do you think we should do something about the uh,
[looks at Walt]
Hurley: B-O-D-Y-S?
Michael: What are you spelling, man? Bodies?
Walter 'Walt' Lloyd: B-O-D-I-E-S.

Jack: I'm intense.


Ana-Lucia Cortez: You do what I tell you. When I say, "move" you move. When I say "stop" you stop. When I say "jump", what do you say?
Sawyer: You first.


Sawyer: Uh, uh, uh, jungle boy. Not even for one second.


[Sayid has Locke at gun point]
Sayid: This is one time you better *not* be telling the truth!


Mr. Eko: Do not mistake coincidence for fate.


Hurley: Dude, that was like a Jedi moment.


Sawyer: Remember when you said that all you wanted was me? Well, now you know better.


Ana-Lucia Cortez: How 'bout you gimme that gun?
Sawyer: How 'bout I gimme you nothin'?


Sawyer: You're in my light, Sticks.
Shannon: 'Lightsticks.' What the hell is that?
Sawyer: Light, comma, Sticks. As in those legs of yours.


Kate: You okay?
Sawyer: Never been better.
Kate: What the hell were you thinking?
Sawyer: [chuckles] I couldn't help myself. You just look so damn cute swingin' that pickaxe... Chain gang looks good on you, Freckles.


Kate: Why did she call you James?
Sawyer: [sighs] 'Cause that's my name. Noticed somethin' else, too.
[pauses, grins]
Sawyer: You taste like strawberries.
Kate: You taste like fish biscuits.


Charlie: Polar bears are meant to be clever, very clever. They're like the Einstein’s of the bear community.


Hurley: So the hatch... blew off your underwear?


Charlie: [to Eko] Are you going to beat me with your Jesus stick?
