Over forty years have passed since the end of the Cylon War, contested between the humans of the Twelve Colonies and man's creation, the Cylons.
The Galactica, one of the original twelve battlestars, is scheduled to be decommissioned. As part of the ceremonies, Commander Adama's son Lee ("Apollo") is named to fly Adama's restored Viper. Lee's return opens old wounds when they discuss the fate of Adama's other son, Zak.
Meanwhile, in Caprica City, the famous scientist Gaius Baltar argues against limits on research into artificial intelligence. He also has a sensual new lover with a mysterious agenda of her own.

Battlestar Galactica (2003 Miniseries) - Part 2.5

The military crumbles after their newly updated ships shut down in the face of a new unknown Cylon weapon. A lone battlestar known as Galactica, due to be decommissioned and converted into a museum, turns out to be the only thing standing between the Cylons and the total destruction of the human race.

33
Following the destruction of the Colonies, the refugee fleet led by Galactica has been relentlessly chased by the Cylons who pop up every 33 minutes to attack again, and have been doing so for five days straight. 33 minutes gives them barely long enough to calculate a jump and distribute the coordinates to each ship. The perpetual attacks and jumps to escape prevent anyone from sleeping for very long, even if they aren't involved in keeping the fleet moving. The equipment is also stressed to the point that, finally, a passenger ship called the 'Olympic Carrier' is left behind, rebooting their jump computer when the jump is executed. When the Olympic Carrier suddenly jumps in to rejoin the fleet some time later, it seems certain that the ship must have been infiltrated. The convoy of refugees, led by the recommissioned Battlestar Galactica, is attacked exactly thirty three minutes after every FTL jump, leading many to believe there is a traitor in their midst.
Water
President Roslin arrives on Galactica as Boomer's Cylon side asserts itself, forcing her to sabotage Galactica's water supply against her will. A series of explosions leads to the loss of 60% of the water reserves and Commander Adama is compelled to introduce rationing and begin a search of nearby planetary systems for any H20 deposits. Boomer wakes up in a storage locker soaking wet and carrying a bag with a bomb in it. Moments later, several explosions rip through the Battlestar Galactica bleeding her of 60% of her water. Now the crew struggles to find another source of water before riots threaten to destroy the convoy.
Bastille Day
Deciding to use the thousand prisoners on a prison transport ship to mine the ice on the planet they've found, Galactica's plans are upset when a political prisoner onboard leads an uprising, taking hostages. He questions the legitimacy of Roslin's government and demands free elections to be held in the fleet. Lee has an idea to use prisoners to collect a new supply of water from underground on an icy moon, but the leader of a group of insurgents uses the opportunity to take some of the ship's officers hostage.

Act of Contrition
There's a party on Galactica's flight deck as Flat-Top just had his thousandth landing. Something goes terribly wrong however when a drone accidentally goes off and explodes in a group of pilots. 13 are dead. During the ceremony Kara Thrace starts thinking about her dead fiancée Zak Adama. And those memories even get clearer when Adama orders her to start training new pilots. She seems very uncomfortable in doing so. The favor she did for Zak by letting him pass basic flight seems to bother her more and more. Angrily she stops training pilots after just one day. Meanwhile on Cylon-occupied Caprica Helo and Cylon-Sharon find a bomb shelter in a restaurant. It seems like a good place to stay for a while. There's food, water and anti-radiation medication in abundance. When an accident kills or incapacitates 20 of Galactica's fighter pilots, Kara must train a new squad. The process brings back painful memories for her and Lee. Meanwhile, Roslin seeks a cure for her breast cancer.
You Can't Go Home Again
Starbuck has been shot down over a barren moon, and must be rescued before she runs out of oxygen. Adama become obsessed with trying to save her even when all hope seems lost, putting the Fleet at risk. Meanwhile, Starbuck finds the Cylon Raider she shot down, and tries to learn how to fly it so she can escape. When Kara goes missing under enemy fire, Lee and his father stir up resentment by using too many of the Galactica's scanty resources in their attempts to find her.
Litmus
A humanoid Cylon straps himself with explosives and commits a suicide bombing in a crowded hallway on Galactica. Roslin and Adama are forced to publicly reveal that the Cylons now have models that look like humans, and a wave of paranoia spreads over the fleet as everyone starts being suspected of being a Cylon. After a suicide attack by a humanoid Cylon, the general populace of the fleet learn of the existence of these Cylons. A tribunal is convened to determine if any more of them are hiding among the crew of the Galactica.
Six Degrees of Separation
After Baltar has an argument with the vision of Number Six he sees in his head, a physical copy of Cylon model Number Six shows up in Galactica's CIC claiming to be a woman named Shelley Godfrey who has evidence that proves that Baltar has betrayed humanity...except that she's trying to frame him for an act of pre-attack sabotage. A woman accuses Dr. Baltar of being the one who let the Cylons access the defense mainframe. As proof, she presents a disc that contains photographs of a man looking like Dr. Baltar entering the mainframe the day before the attack. As the contents of the disc are being analyzed, Dr. Baltar must wage a lonely battle to prove his innocence, while also dealing with the sudden disappearance of Number Six from his life.

Flesh and Bone
A humanoid Cylon is captured in the fleet, a copy of the Leoben model, who claims that he has planted a nuclear bomb in the Fleet before he was captured. Starbuck is tasked with interrogating him, which soon becomes a battle of wills as Starbuck has her marines to torture the Cylon to try to break him. A copy of the Leoben Conoy model (the Cylon that Adama killed in the mini-series) appears in the civilian fleet. Starbuck is assigned to the interrogation. Roslin had a dream about Conoy before he was captured, so she's particularly determined to uncover his plans. Meanwhile, Boomer asks Baltar to test his new Cylon detector on her. Sharon on Caprica receives new instructions that she's not comfortable with.
Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down
After the interrogated Cylon gave Roslin the idea that Adama might be a Cylon, Roslin becomes suspicious of him. Unexpectedly, Colonel Tigh's estranged wife Ellen turns up alive in the fleet, apparently miraculously, raising the possibility that she might be a Cylon. Roslin's suspicions regarding Commander Adama increase when he can't be located during a military operation. Col. Tigh defends his friend despite being mad that he also didn't know where Adama was. But everything is explained when the commander returns to Galactica with Ellen Tigh. It seems that the colonel's estranged wife had been unconscious since the Cylon attack and is now awake and ready to reconcile. Tigh is thrilled to have his wife alive and back in his life; everyone else now turns their suspicions towards her.
The Hand of God
The fleet is running out of tylium fuel and will soon not have enough to keep running from the Cylons, when they find an asteroid with several years worth of tylium ore...unfortunately, the Cylons have already built a mining base on it. The fleet is facing a fuel shortage; the only possible relief comes from an active and heavily armed Cylon fuel refinery. Adama decides to launch an offensive against the base. This puts Lee on the spot since not everyone believes that he's up to the challenge of leading the assault. Baltar, the resident "Cylon expert," makes a guess that could put the entire mission in jeopardy if he's wrong.

Colonial Day
President Roslin has rebuilt a new Quorum of Twelve, the legislative branch of the government, but terrorist leader/political dissident Tom Zarek is elected as a member, and immediately motions that the Quorum vote to appoint a new Vice President, and runs for the office. Tom Zarek has himself nominated for the role of Vice President as an assassin is located on board the Cloud Nine Luxury liner. As tensions flare the cruel hand of politics leads to murder, and the election of the most unlikely Vice President.
Kobol's Last Gleaming: Part 1
Galactica stumbles upon Kobol, the long-lost home world of humanity that the 13 Tribes came from, which legend says holds the only clues to the location of Earth. Roslin convinces Starbuck to steal the captured Cylon raider and return to Cylon-occupied Caprica with it to retrieve a religious artifact that will unlock the secrets on Kobol. In a moment of bad judgment, Kara sleeps with Gaius Baltar. Boomer and Crashdown discover a planet that Roslin believes is Kobol, the ancient homeworld of humanity. Boomer continues to struggle with her Cylon instincts, leading her to thoughts of suicide. Adama believes that the fleet could settle permanently on the new planet. However, the Raptor scouting party discovers a Cylon fleet near the planet. On Cylon-occupied Caprica, Helo encounters Caprica Sharon for the first time since he learned that she is a Cylon.
Kobol's Last Gleaming: Part 2
Infuriated that Roslin usurped his command by ordering Starbuck to steal the captured Raider, Adama decides that his only option is to storm Colonial One with marines and terminate her presidency. Starbuck reaches Caprica and finds the Arrow of Apollo in a museum, but she has to go through a copy of Number Six to get it. The crew of Raptor One crashes on Kobol. Baltar and Number Six look upon the face of the future. Starbuck reaches Caprica and finds the Arrow of Apollo. Adama orders the arrest of the President over her ordering Starbuck to retrieve the Arrow, and Boomer goes on one final mission to destroy the Base Star orbiting Kobol. Old Alliances fall, and new ones are formed, and someone is shot by a Cylon agent...

Battlestar Galactica Season Two

Scattered
As the premiere for the second season unfolds, Adama lay dying leaving Tigh in command. Lee and Roslin have been sent to the brig. An emergency jump goes wrong leaving the Galactica alone in space without the fleet. With Adama out of action, Colonel Tigh takes his position as commander of the Galactica. The fleet makes an emergency jump, but due to an error by Gaeta, Galactica does not transmit the proper jump coordinates and the fleet becomes separated from Galactica. Boomer is in jail, and the cat's out of the bag - she's a Cylon. Back on Caprica Boomer takes off with Starbuck's Cylon raider.
Valley of Darkness
A Cylon virus is hampering with Galactica's power supply, while Cylon centurions are heading for crucial systems. Somehow they must be stopped. The Galactica successfully reunites with the fleet, but the Cylons are still onboard the ship. Col. Tigh orders Lee to stop the Centurions from reaching Aft Damage Control before they vent the atmosphere from the ship. On Cylon-occupied Caprica, Starbuck and Helo visit her old apartment. Helo takes note of the abstract paintings on the wall. On Kobol, Baltar has a nightmare about Adama. Tyrol and Cally go on a purported rescue mission.
Fragged
Tigh has problems with the responsibility of being a leader, president Roslin loses control without chamalla. The Kobol team discovers a Cylon battery. Adama is still in surgery. Meanwhile, the men and women on Kobol are searching for a way out of their desperate situation. They discover that the Cylons have built an anti-aircraft battery, which is designed to destroy any rescue craft. Crashdown leads the group on a raid to destroy the weapon before their rescue ship can arrive. Back on Galactica President Roslin is experiencing withdrawal symptoms after being deprived of chamalla. Colonel Tigh is facing off against the Quorum of Twelve. Fed up with their interference, he declares martial law.

Resistance
Tigh's decision to impose martial law is protested in the fleet as well as on Galactica. On Caprica, Helo and Starbuck meet other humans. Martial law is having a bad effect on the fleet as ships are refusing to resupply Galactica. The Chief is arrested as a suspected Cylon, and it's up to Gaius Baltar to prove his innocence. The President, with the assistance of Lee Adama, escapes her imprisonment aboard Galactica and takes refuge on Cloud 9 with the help of the most unlikely of allies. Starbuck and Helo discover a group of fifty-three survivors on Caprica.
The Farm
Starbuck finds herself wounded in a hospital on Caprica where she is suspicious about her doctor. President Roslin makes an appeal to the fleet to follow her to Kobol. A week after last week's exciting episode , Adama returns to an excited CIC and retakes command of his ship. He orders a ship to ship search to find the President, but fails to find her before she sends out a message informing the other ships in the fleet that she knows where Earth is, and that she will lead them there. Over a third of the fleet leaves Galactica's protection and jumps back to Kobol to await the return of Starbuck.
Back on Caprica Starbuck has been shot and is under medical care in a strange looking and sounding hospital.
Caprica Boomer returns to Helo, and helps him lead a raid on the hospital where Starbuck is being held which leads to a chilling discovery.
Home: Part 1
Starbuck, Helo and Boomer bring back the Arrow of Apollo, but Boomer doesn't seem welcome. Commander Adama wants to keep the fleet divided and appoints a new CAG. President Roslin's fragile coalition is put to the test and Adama continues to struggle with the betrayal of his son. Starbuck, Helo, and Boomer return from Caprica and set out for Kobol to find the tomb of Athena.
Home: Part 2
While commander Adama tries to join Roslin's team on Kobol, Dr. Baltar's Number Six tells him he's crazy. Adama heads to Kobol to find Roslin, reassembles the fleet and heads down to Kobol himself with most of the key characters (Apollo, Starbuck, Zarek, Billy, Tyrol) to find the presidential party in search of the "tomb of Athena" which allegedly leads to Earth. The two groups meet, Adama and Roslin make their peace and continue on their expedition. Apollo hangs out with Starbuck , Zarek tries to keep his cronie off plotting with Boomer who is unaware of tension building between Helo and Tyrol. On arrival at the tomb, a showdown between Boomer, Adama (and Zarek's chum) occurs but the key characters of the group enter the tomb afterwards and find themselves transported to Earth.

Final Cut
Journalist D'Anna Biers is making an item on the Gideon incident, when she's asked by Adama and Roslin to film daily life on Galactica. A reporter is sent to Galactica to chronicle the harsh realities of life during wartime. Lucy Lawless guest stars as the television reporter, D'Anna Biers.
Flight of the Phoenix
While Tyrol decides to start building a new fighter, the Cylon virus is rearing it's ugly head again. Boomer tells it means a large Cylon attack is imminent. Sharon informs Adama that the Galatica has been infected with a computer virus that is tampering with the basic ship functions and is scanning them for weaknesses. All this is preparation for a major assault by the Cylon Raiders. So with the clock ticking, Adama must pull himself together and decide whether or not she can be trusted. Meanwhile the flight crew is hard at work on a new fighter named The Blackbird.
Pegasus
Gallactica meets Pegasus, and Adama's command is threatened when the captain of Pegasus outranks him. A joyous celebration turns sour at some of the secrets emerging out of the differences of the two crews, and Baltar meets a familiar Cylon prisoner aboard Pegasus. The Galactica crew is overjoyed when they encounter another Colonial battlestar, the Mercury-class Pegasus. The elation fades when Admiral Cain takes command of the fleet. The Galactica crew learn about the harsh practices onboard Pegasus. The tension boils over when Helo and Chief Tyrol learn about Lt. Thorne, the "Cylon Interrogator."

Resurrection Ship: Part 1
Adama and Cain find common ground when Starbuck returns with footage of the Cylon ship. Roslin negotiates a temporary truce, while Starbuck plans an attack. Kara arrives in the Blackbird with detailed photos of the mysterious Cylon ship. Despite the new truce between Adama and Cain, Roslin continues to see Admiral Cain as a dangerous threat, one that needs to be dealt with firmly.
Resurrection Ship: Part 2
Starbuck and Fisk are preparing for the murder jobs, while the attack on the Resurrection ship is planned. It goes wrong for Apollo. Dr. Baltar has feelings for Pegasus' Number Six. The Galactica and Pegasus prepare for a joint attack on the Cylon Resurrection Ship. Adama assigns Kara a dangerous special mission. Lee says he will help Kara, but he may not have the will to fight, even to save his own life. Meanwhile, Cain assigns Col. Fisk to his own special mission onboard the Galactica.
Epiphanies
President Roslin, who is about to die, believes Sharon's baby is dangerous and orders it must die. Meanwhile, a terrorist group inside the fleet starts to ask for a peace negotiation with the cylons. As President Roslin nears death, Dr. Gaius Baltar must be groomed for the worst case scenario. Roslin orders the death of Sharon's unborn child. A sabotaged Viper leads to an investigation that uncovers a movement of people seeking peace with the Cylons. Baltar discovers an anomaly in the (Sharon's) fetus that may cure Roslin's cancer.
Black Market
Apollo investigates the murder of one of the crew and falls for a young prostitute, whom he vows to save from the rogue ship dealing with the Black Market. As well as confronting the bad guys, Apollo has to confront some past mistakes. The new commander of the Pegasus, Jack Fisk, is murdered by black marketeers. Lee Adama is charged with solving the crime. Roslin seeks to stamp out the black market by introducing new trade regulations.
Scar
This is an episode about loss. Kat and Starbuck confront each other about their piloting skills and each vow to kill Scar (a Cylon spaceship) before the other. A crazed Cylon Raider attacks the Colonial fleet in a series of hit-and-run attacks. Overworked Viper pilots must defend a mining operation from this Raider that they nickname "Scar."

Sacrifice
A terrorist attacks and holds several key people hostage and threatens to murder them unless she is given the Cylon prisoner. A woman takes hostages on Cloud Nine and demands that Adama turn over Sharon in order to avenge her husband's death at the hands of the Cylons.
The Captain's Hand
Two of Pegasus' raptors go missing after a suspicious distress call. President Roslin must make a decision on abortion that could hurt her political career. Apollo assists in the search for a missing Raptor team as the new commander of the Pegasus grows increasingly unstable.
Downloaded
The Cylon baby is finally born, leading to some political decisions being made. Meanwhile, the Cylons on Caprica contemplate life and humans when they meet up with a certain human from a previous episode. This story explores the Cylon world. After Boomer's consciousness is downloaded into a new body following her death, she struggles with her new life on Cylon-occupied Caprica. Number Six is asked to help Boomer adjust to her new role in Cylon society.
Lay Down Your Burdens: Part 1
While Dr. Baltar is behind in the polls for the election and tries desperately to turn things around, Starbuck is planning a mission to rescue Anders from Caprica. Chief Tyrol is plagued by terrifying dreams and seeks the aid of a priest. Kara leads a rescue mission to Caprica. Roslin and Baltar go head-to-head in a presidential debate that changes dramatically with the discovery of a habitable planet.
Lay Down Your Burdens: Part 2
The group on Caprica is under fire by the Cylons, but suddenly they stop. With only one ship's votes to be counted, Roslin is way behind in the elections. When Baltar wins the vote, Roslin considers stealing the election because she believes he is a Cylon collaborator.

Battlestar Galactica Season Three

Occupation
Tigh, Tyrol and Anders lead the Resistance on New Caprica to increasingly deadly attacks against the Cylons. Kara finds herself trapped in a new life with Leoben Conoy, and Duck makes a fateful decision. Meanwhile on Galactica, Adama struggles with the question of whether to return to New Caprica to mount a rescue attempt. Tigh, Tyrol and Anders lead the Resistance on New Caprica to increasingly deadly attacks against the Cylons. Kara finds herself trapped in a new life with Leoben Conoy, and Duck makes a fateful decision.

Eventually, the suicide bombings cause the Cylon occupiers to crackdown on their human subjects. Adama plans to return to New Caprica and drop off a surprising person to act as a liaison between Galactica and the Resistance. Tigh's insistence on the use of suicide bombers and ever escalating violence stuns even the fellow leaders of the Resistance. Eventually, the suicide bombings cause the Cylon occupiers to crackdown on their human subjects.
Exodus: Part 1
Sharon helps to organize the Resistance as Adama heads to New Caprica aboard Galactica for a daring rescue operation. Lee disagrees with Adama's plan to return to New Caprica, arguing that they need to focus on the survival of humanity. He sees the rescue mission as a one-way trip. Sharon helps the Resistance on New Caprica as Adama leads Galactica on a dangerous rescue operation.
Tyrol races to save Cally from the execution squad. Meanwhile Anders uncovers treachery among the humans.
D'Anna Biers/Number Three meets the Oracle Selloi after having strange dreams about the temple.

Baltar tries to convince the Cylons of his value to them in an attempt to stay alive. A Measure of Salvation
When a group of ill Cylons from the infected Basestar is brought to Galactica, Lee discovers a way to solve the Cylon problem forever - by destroying the whole Cylon race. Meanwhile, D'anna's acts to discover if Baltar is reliable will forge an unusual relationship. Apollo formulates a plan that threatens the very existence of the Cylon culture. Adama and Roslin must decide whether to follow through on the plan to use a biological weapon against the Cylons.
D'Anna Biers (Number Three) believes Baltar knows who created the virus that infected and disabled the Cylon baseship. She is willing to take extreme measures to learn the truth.

Hero
A figure from Adama's past returns to haunt him. His return raises questions about why the Cylons launched their initial attack against the Twelve Colonies.
Unfinished Business
A look at the events that took place during the year-long gap from the storyline in the Season Two finale. The story reveals the reasons for the rift between Kara ("Starbuck") and Lee ("Apollo"). Adama stages a boxing tournament on the Galactica to help the crew relax. The competitive atmosphere sets off a brutal match between Kara and Lee. Flashbacks from New Caprica reveal the origin and nature of their dispute.

The Eye of Jupiter
The crew of Galactica makes a stop at the barren Algae planet. Tyrol discovers the Temple of Five on the algae planet. The temple may hold the Eye of Jupiter, which is believed to show the way to Earth. The Cylons take a keen interest in the discovery.
Athena learns that her baby, Hera, may still be alive. Lee relies on Anders to help build civilian support for the protection of the Eye. His relationship with Kara complicates matters.
Rapture
The Cylons descend upon the re-supply mission as the Chief races to decipher the markings in the temple believed to hold The Eye of Jupiter, a sacred icon that is believed to contain a map to Earth. D'Anna/Number Three squares off against Adama over the Temple of the Five. Athena asks for Helo's aid in her plan to rescue Hera.
On the algae planet, Apollo orders Dee to leave her defended position in order to save Kara. Anders helps Apollo to hold off the Cylon Centurion attack.
Another copy of D'Anna finds the Temple and continues her search for the identities of the Final Five. Her messianic complex begins to concern the other Cylons.

Taking a Break from All Your Worries
Baltar plays a game of cat and mouse with Adama and the President, thinking they will kill him once they've gotten out of him what they want to know. Lee deals with his feelings for Kara, while struggling to hang on to his marriage. Now onboard Galactica, Baltar faces charges of treason. He contemplates suicide with the help of Number Six. Questions remain about his true identity. Is he a Cylon or isn't he?
Apollo shows off the new drinking establishment on Galactica, Joe's Bar, to Tyrol. Apollo thinks about Kara and wonders whether his marriage to Dee is worth saving.
The Woman King
When a group of refugees board Galactica with a curable illness, it becomes very mysterious when they begin to die after taking the injection they do not believe in. The Sagittarons allege that a doctor is discriminating against them. As Helo investigates, he becomes concerned that the doctor may even be murdering patients. Meanwhile, Athena unwittingly brings Hera to the doctor for treatment.
A Day in the Life
The Chief and his wife get trapped in an airlock on a routine maintenance job, while the Admiral copes with his wedding anniversary and the memories of his ex-wife. Chief Tyrol and his wife Cally become trapped in a malfunctioning airlock.
Adama remembers his late wife Carolanne as he marks his wedding anniversary. His relationship with President Roslin continues to become more friendly and personal.
Dirty Hands
When the head of the fuel production plant holds the fleet hostage by providing unsafe fuel, he's arrested for treason, which results in the Chief sent to the ship and held responsible for getting the plant back up and running. Amid a heated labor dispute, Tyrol asks the imprisoned Baltar for advice. Seelix becomes involved after she is turned down for flight training.
Maelstrom
The Admiral is forced to make the decision of whether to ground Kara Thrace when she begins to show signs of an oncoming nervous breakdown. Kara continues to have dreams about Leoben Conoy and the mandala she painted at her old apartment on Caprica. While on patrol in her Viper, she encounters a Cylon Heavy Raider.
When Tyrol cannot verify Kara's claim that the Cylon ship struck the Viper, Admiral Adama and Lee become concerned about her mental stability.
The Son Also Rises
Besides having to deal with the loss of Kara Thrace, the crew of the Galactica is also charged with the security surrounding the trial of Dr. Baltar and his defense attorney, who is replacing one lawyer that has already been killed. When Baltar's representatives face assassination attempts, Adama asks Lee to protect Baltar's lawyer. After taking on the assignment, Lee seeks to play an active role in Baltar's defense.
Crossroads: Part 1
Baltar goes on trial for his life, and it affects everyone from Lee on up to the president. Baltar's trial testimony threatens the very stability of the fleet. Lee assists Romo Lampkin in Baltar's defense.
Some in the fleet begin to feel that Baltar is divine. Though he dismisses such beliefs, Number Six suggests that the followers may know more about his true nature than Baltar does himself.
At Baltar's trial, Col. Tigh testifies about the death of his wife Ellen on New Caprica.
Crossroads: Part 2
Coincidences creates new alliances aboard Galactica. Col. Tigh attempts to decipher the strange music he is hearing in his head while Baltar's trial comes to a conclusion. Key members of the fleet discover that they may be the Final Five Cylons.

In this seven-part series, a young Viper pilot named William "Husker" Adama uncovers a Cylon weapon during the first Cylon War. Each flashback runs about two to three minutes. They air on Friday nights between October 5 and November 16, 2007, as a prelude to the special two-hour event, Battlestar Galactica: Razor. Trivia For Battlestar Galactica

• In the original "Battlestar Galactica" (1978), Viper weapons fire was red lasers and the Cylon Raider fire was white lasers. In this version, both ships fire actual bullets.
• Richard Hatch, who plays Tom Zarek, played Apollo in the original "Battlestar Galactica" (1978).
• Starbuck, who is played by Katee Sackhoff, was a man in the original "Battlestar Galactica" (1978) show, played by Dirk Benedict. It's also the name of the first officer aboard the Pequod in the book Moby Dick.
• The Battlestar Galactica and the Viper fighters are similar in design to the old show, but were revamped for the new show. The Cylon Basetar, Cylon Raider, and Cylon Centurion each had a completely new design for the new show. Also, there are only four ships that appear in the remake but not in the original: "Colonial One" (the transport used by Laura Roslin), the Olympic Carrier, Cloud 9 and the ringed passenger liner.
• Only the Colonial Viper Mk II had kept its original look from the original Battlestar Galctica series. The Galactica and the Cylon Raiders are similar in design but were revamped for the show. The Cylon Base Star had a completely new design. In the original it looked like two flattened spinning tops pressed together, now it actually resembles a star shape. • The executive officer was named Paul Tigh in original scripts, but this was changed to Saul Tigh in the final filming for legal reasons.
• Commander Adama has a shaving mirror in his cabin. This mirror is made by IKEA, and is a model called "Fräck" (spelling according to IKEA Web site). This word is similar to "frak" (spelling according to the subtitles with an "a" and without a "c"), which is the primary vulgarity in the Battlestar Galactica universe. "Fräck" is Swedish and can actually mean insolent or shameless but the meaning IKEA is most likely after is striking, which is another interpretation of the word.
• In the original scripts, Admiral Cain's first name was Nelena.
• "Kobol" in the ancient Persian language means "Heaven". It is also an anagram of "Kolob", the name of the planet/star nearest the "throne of God", according to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) - Glen A. Larson, the executive producer of the original television series, was a church member and incorporated a number of themes from Mormon theology into the show.
• Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore maintains a weekly blog on the Sci-Fi Channel's official Web site, talking about different aspects of the show and answering fan questions.
• During the show's first season, it consistently remained Sci-Fi Channel's top-rated program, pulling in more than 3 million viewers. Its 10pm viewing even finished ahead of UPN's "Enterprise" (2001) which aired at 8pm on Fridays on a non-cable/satellite network.

• Sci-Fi Channel ordered six scripts for a second season of the show before the first episode even aired in the United States. It ordered a 20-episode second season a month after it began to air in the United States.
• The first season was aired in the United Kingdom on SkyOne months before it aired in North America. This resulted in an increase in North Americans downloading episodes on the Internet that were made freely available by British viewers of the show. Fearing that this widespread "previewing" of the series would diminish the show's ratings once it aired in North America, executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick made a written plea to fans to stop downloading episodes and wait for them to air in the United States and Canada.

• Jane Seymour was offered the role of Admiral Nelena Cain. When she turned down the offer, Ronald D. Moore offered the role to 'Michelle Forbes' and she accepted.
• Adama's lighter was actually purchased at a garage sale.
• The characters Tarn and Selix, who first appear in "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part 2", were named at the behest of Aaron Douglas, who plays Chief Petty Officer Tyrol. Douglas noted that the two were originally listed in the script generically (Technician 1 and 2) and, recognizing the potential of the two characters, consulted with others in the cast to give them proper names. Douglas then inserted their new names into his lines on every take.
• The season 1 finale, "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Parts 1-2", went through a number of changes according to the Podcast commentary for both episodes. Some of these early differences include:
o 1. Part One was to conclude with the Raptor crashing and Part Two would end with Starbuck stealing the Raider to finish the finale with a season-ending cliffhanger. This was changed when the original pacing wasn't working.
o 2. Originally, the ruins on Kobol were supposed to be a huge temple that was mirrored on Caprica. This was abandoned due to cost constraints.
o 3. What Baltar and Number Six experienced inside the ruins on Kobol went through a number of changes. Originally, Ron D. Moore proposed to the other writers that there was supposed to be a bright corridor of light. In a later version, there was to be complete darkness punctuated with music from a song recognizable by both the audience and the two explorers. Then, Dirk Benedict (Starbuck from the original "Battlestar Galactica" (1978)) was supposed appear and say something like, "Hi. I'm God." followed by TO BE CONTINUED... However, the other writers quickly disparaged the idea as implausible, and Ron D. Moore reluctantly agreed.
o 4. One concept that the writers liked, but were forced to abandon was the idea that the interior room of the ruins was to be located in "otherspace" or in a different spatial or dimensional location.

• When they created the sub plot with Helo and Boomer on Caprica the creators did not know why Boomer and the Cylons were interested in Helo. It was only about half way through the first season that they decided that the Cylons were interested in biological reproduction, an issue that has become very important to the series.
• The subplot set on Cylon Occupied Caprica with Helo and Boomer was not originally planned; after being left of Caprica in the mini series, Helo was supposed to never be seen again: the audience would be left to assume that he died. Only after seeing the audience's reaction to Helo did the show producers decide to bring him back, and introduce another Boomer, and the Cylons' experiments in creating a Cylon/Human Hybrid, which eventually became an integral part of the Cylon "plan".
• Doc Cottle is named after Michael Rymer's childhood pediatrician, who was actually a very nice person unlike his fictional counterpart.
• The phrase "so say we all", which is used as a ceremonial affirmation in the series, was ad-libbed by Edward James Olmos in a speech given by Commander Adama in the mini-series.
• The Battlestar Pegasus set is actually the recycled set of the Jupiter 2 from The Robinsons: Lost in Space (2004) (TV). The set was purchased when the latter's pilot failed to generate a series.
• Both Ronald D. Moore and James Callis have said that all the lead actors were required to sign seven-year contracts when they were hired for the pilot miniseries.
• Lucy Lawless was originally offered the role of Ellen Tigh, but rejected it feeling that she was wrong for the part. The producers so wanted her for a role on the series, however, that they later wrote the role of D'Anna Biers with Lawless in mind.

• The term "skinjob", used to describe any of the humanoid Cylon models, is a reference to the movie Blade Runner (1982), in which Edward James Olmos also starred (and suggested Tricia Helfer watch to help her prepare) and the Nexus 6 models are described by the same moniker.
• The combat helmets worn by the Marines are actually Giro "Bad Lieutenant" snowboarder helmets. They're made out of plastic, not Kevlar.
• Many of the weapons used in the series are actual modern firearms, and not custom props. The Marines often use Heckler & Koch G36 rifles and Beretta CX4 carbines, Anders frequently carries a Heckler & Koch UMP submachinegun and a Desert Eagle pistol, Helo sometimes carries a South African Protecta drum-fed shotgun, and Starbuck sometimes uses a pair of Skorpion vz 61 submachineguns.
• In the beginning of season 3, Jamie Bamber did not actually gain the weight for the role. Instead, a body double was used for some close-up shots of the rounded tummy, and Bamber wore a jowl-forming brace in his mouth. A few wide shots of his body were cheated out.
• Occasionally, the main musical theme from The Deer Hunter (1978) can be heard. For example, in the final scene of "Scar" (episode 2.15).

• Ronald D. Moore and David Eick have said they adopted a largely improvisational style of developing stories for this series. Rather than plot out story arcs years in advance--a practice commonplace on sci-fi shows like "Lost" (2004) and "Babylon 5" (1994)--the writers develop ideas for stories based solely on the themes present in current episodes, and try to take them in a totally unexpected direction.

• In 2007, ranked #2 by Entertainment Weekly in their list of their list of best 25 Science Fiction of the past 25 years.
• To prepare for her role as Gina, the captive Cylon, Tricia Helfer viewed the film Ciociara, La (1960) to give her a better understanding of a rape victim.
• It was planned to start Season 2 with a flashback about the life of the characters before the Cylon attack, but finally they just continued where Season 1 ended.
• In Hebrew the name "Adama" (last name of William, Lee and Zak) actually means "ground" or "earth" and pronounced almost exactly: "ada-ma". Hardy a coincidence since finding Earth is the main theme of the series.
• Religion in the show started as a line said by Number 6 in the script of the miniseries, and the producers liked it so much that they decided to expand it, so Ronald D. Moore and David 'Eick' related the Cylon religion to their terrorist acts.
