Trivia For Nip/Tuck

Sunday, November 25, 2007

• Sophia Bush admitted in an interview that she didn't feel comfortable making the love scenes with co-star Kate Mara.
• Dr. Christian Troy's character was originally named Dr. Christian Vega. The name was changed when Julian McMahon was cast in the role.
• In the first series, Roma Maffia's character (Liz) has the surname Winters. From series 2 onwards, her surname has changed to Cruz.
• Each episode is named after a character undergoing plastic surgery in the episode. • The stereo used while performing surgery is made by Bang & Olufsen from Denmark.
• Liz is revealed to be a lesbian, and that she has just ended a fifteen year relationship with a woman named Jan.
• This is the first episode to question Matt's true paternity. After seeing a picture, Grace jokingly asks Sean, "Is your son the mailman's?"
• Music: “Motherf**ker” by We Are Evolved (Christian with tanning booth girl) “Genetic World” by Telepopmuzik (Mandi/Randi surgery) “Coup D’Etat” by Sekou The Ambassador (Christian/Matt at strip club) “Walking On Space” by Smooth (Christian gets lap dance from stripper) “Over My Head” by Fleetwood Mac (Julia finds Christian in bed with Mandi/Randi)
• The scene where Matt asks Julia for the cuticle scissors, the stove clock reads 6:40PM. Julia is to meet Christian 20 minutes later. This presents how strictly accurate the crew is.
• Six weeks after the pilot episode, Dr Pendleton is part of the business as their practice psychiatrist. He's fired later on in this episode however, making this his only ever appearance.
• First appearance of Dr Grace Santiago played by Valerie Cruz. She's a regular cast member for the rest of the first season, but does not return after season 1. First appearance of Suzanne Epstein, another recurring character of the show.
• Annie's gerbil Frisky is found in the toilet pipes by a plumber.
• Matt attempts to circumcise himself • If Mandi and Randi were smart enough, they wouldn't wear the same sleeveless shirt, the same hairstyle, the same makeup while bitching about how different they are. And they expect people to be able to tell the difference between one another?! Christ, what they need is a brain implant! Goof: When Matt and Julia have a talk near the end of the episode, Julia's hand goes from Matt's shoulder to Matt's cheek between each shot.
• Dr. Santiago describes a former patient of hers as having attention deficit disorder while the symptoms she describes are for obsessive-compulsive disorder.

• In real life, there are 3 Sean McNamaras that work on TV and movies. Sean I is the exec. producer of "That's So Raven" and director of the movie "Bratz". Sean II works in the sound departments. Sean III helped writing "Scrapple".
• Julia's maiden name is Noughton. The McNamara home is located at 1657 Essex Way.
• First appearance of Kimber Henry who would later in Season 3 become a cast regular. Mrs. Grubman and Escobar Gallardo also make their first appearances, recurring later on for more episodes this season and recurring more in Season 4.
• Christian's boat is named "The Boatox", a play on spelling. Botox is an anti-wrinkle drug.
• Music:
"Lonely” by Bebel Gilberto (Christian driving in his car during opening credits)
"Paint It Black" by Rolling Stones (during Perez's face surgery)
“Truth or Dare” by N.E.R.D (Christian botoxing girls at the suite)
“Panoptica” by Nortec Collective (When Escobar tortures Christian)
• Despite the episode being named after her, Nanette Babcock doesn't have surgery. This is the first time in the show's history that the episode is named after someone who doesn't have surgery.
• Music:
“Theme Song” by Emergency (Matt walks in on Ridley and Vanessa)
“The Blue Danube Waltz – Op. 314” by Johann Strauss (Mrs. Grubman’s tummy-tuck surgery)
“Breathe Deeply” by Bird York (Christian calls Nanette/Nanette working out on treadmill)
“The Boy from Ipanema” by Peggy Lee (Mrs. Grubman and Christian in the bedroom)
“So Damn Beautiful” by Poloroid (Nanette commits suicide)
• Polaroid's "So Damn Beautiful" is used during Matt's breakdown and Nanette's suicide at the end of the episode. This song also appears on the Nip/Tuck soundtrack.
• Matt finally gets circumcised
• In this episode, Sean tells Matt that he'll do the circumcision but he has to be more open about anything and everything. But Matt WAS open. Okay so he went to Christian first, but he DID tell his dad he wanted the op, and dad flatly refused
• First appearance of Merril Bobolit played by Joey Slotnick. Merril recurs this season and appears once more in season two.

First appearance of Jude played by Phillip Rhys. He also recurs this season, but later is a guest every season (so far).
• Music:
“Peg” by Steely Dan (Porn Party)
“In Your World (remix)" by Red Cola (Matt/ “Fluffer”-girl talk at porn party)
• At the porn party, which was a 25th anniversary celebration, everyone was either dressed in silver or white or a combination of both (even Matt!) However, Christian was the only one dressed in all black.
• Julia and Jude have a test to study to on the first day of school?!
• The previous goof is not an actual error. Nanette Babcock's suicide wasn't relevant to the events in this episode, so it wasn't mentioned. Also, how are we to know that they didn't mention it during times that weren't depicted in the episode?
• There is no reference to Nanette Babcock from the previous episode (including her suicide), not even in the "previously on Nip/Tuck" sequence
• First appearance of Gina Russo played by Jessalyn Gilsig. She recurs throughout Seasons 1 & 2, and becomes a full-time cast member in Season 3.
• Music:
“The La La Song” by Benny Cassette (Christian at bar)
“Detail In Grun” by Turismo (Christian at bar/former patient Shelly Edwards ‘offers’ herself and her daughter in exchange for more surgery)
“Lovefool” by The Cardigans (Kurt Dempsey’s surgery/Grace walks in on Christian)
“Gimmi Gimmi” by Tosca (Christian/Grace at bar together)
• Christian sleeps with Grace.
• Julian McMahon (Dr. Christian Troy) & Leslie Grossman (Bliss Berger) also appeared together in the episode "Witch Way Now?" of the series "Charmed".
• Music:
“Tighten Up” by Archie Bell & the Drells (Bliss Berger’s arm surgery)
“Spirits” by Junkie XL (Kimber at photo shoot with Christian)

“Baby” by Koop (Kimber having dinner she prepared at Christian’s/Christian breaks up with her)
“Hiding Behind the Moon” by Jeff Hanson (Matt/Vanessa/Ridley threesome)
“Nothing Natural” by Jill Sobule (Matt/Vanessa/Ridley threesome continued)
“Where Do I Begin” by Shirley Bassey (Bliss Berger meets on-line/phone “boyfriend”)
• The doctors finally find out about Nanette's suicide.
• Towards the end of the episode, when Kimber is putting stuff into her purse, she takes out something that looks like a can of spray paint. The very same color that was used in the vandalization of Christian's vehicles.
• Music:
“Skin Tight” by Ohio Players (Kimber pretends to be hooker/picked up by Christian/have sex in his car)
“Smile” by Dzihan & Kamien (Jude fixing breakfast for Julia at his apartment)

“Emerge” by Fischerspooner (Cliff Mantegna’s surgery)
"No Dice" by Tipper (Julia at Jude's apartment as he gets ready for 'The Scene')
“Make Me Cry” by B-Factor (Christian & Kimber arrive/intro at “The Scene”)
“Sleepy Language” by Layo & Bushwacka (Kimber in ‘Girl on Girl’ room at “The Scene”/Christian watching)
• In an earlier episode Vanessa said that Ridley was allergic to latex, but they say they used a condom given to Matt by Sean. There are lambskin condoms that can be used in place of latex condoms.
• In the Parent Conference scene, it is revealed that the reason they chose Matt's house is because Vanessa's mom, who is unemployed, is always home and that Ridley's parents had taken the locks off of her door. However, when Julia busted in on the three-way a few scenes earlier, the door was unlocked. If locked doors were such a concern, why did Matt leave the door unlocked?
• Goof: In the opening scene when Kimber and Christian are having sex in his car, there is an inconsistency with her clothes. He pulls off her top and immediately after that it is back on again. It's back off again pretty quickly, but if you look closely, you can see the editing goof.
• In the closed captioning throughout the episode, Kimber is simply referred to as "Woman" instead of "Kimber.
• At the very end of the episode it is revealed that Christian was adopted and molested by his foster father.
• Goof: When Julia offers Matt some French toasts, there's a fork lying on top of the pile. When the camera changes angle, Matt grabs the plate and the fork suddenly vanished.
• Goof: Skid marks are visible as the car stops after hitting Cara, but they have vanished when the boys drive away.
• How did the car hit Cara with enough force to throw her clear out of the road yet not even leave a dent in the front of the car?

• Music:
“Boombox” by Mosquitos (Christian/Kimber/Merril Bobolit at the spa)
“About the Sun” by Trevor Lissauer (Megan/Sean make love in hotel)
“Lover Boy” by Billy Ocean (Julia/Jude at gym)
“Shelter Me” by The Open Door (Kimber ties up Christian)
“Fever” by Daniel Ash (Kimber tortures tied-up Christian)
“A Sorta Fairytale” by Tori Amos (show ending)
• Goof: After Matt calls Sean the corner of the screen shows that the phone is on silent, but the phone was audibly ringing.
• Goof: During the scene where Christian and Bobolit are going to watch a boxing match in Christian's living room, you can clearly see an entire crew member's body for about 5-10 seconds behind Christian's chair. This happens about halfway through the scene, during one of the shots that shows Christian from his left side.
• The close captions spell Cara with a "K". Ironically, the episode has a scene with Christian's name mistaken for a "K".
• Goof: When Kimber and Christian are "role playing," she draws lipstick lines on his face, not his nose; however, in other shots, he does have a bright red lipstick spot. One minute, his nose is marked for surgery, the next it is not. The fate of Christian's nose changes many times over the course of the scene.
• Music:
"Sunshine Superman" by Donovan (Christian/surgery - sews fingers on patient incorrectly)
"The Four Seasons (Concerto No.3 in F Major, RV.293 'Autumn': l: Allegro)" by Antonio Vivaldi (Christian/Sean in re-certification with "heads")
“Claire De Lune” by Claude Debussy (Megan & Sean have dinner)
“Rocket Man” by Elton John (Megan commits suicide)
• Megan O'Hara dies in this episode by killing herself.
• At the end of the episode, Julia says to Sean: "I can't hate a woman who died of cancer at 36." Yet, in Episode 6 (Megan O'Hara), Megan's patient form states that she is only 31.
• Goof: The talking head of Adelle Coffin was a blue head with a hair piece (and an inch of prosthetic skin all around) on top. Digitally, the actress' face was filled into the blue part. Anyhow, the goof is that you can clearly tell the difference between the skin tones of the actress compared to the inch of prosthetic skin.
• Goof: When Julia first sobs after knowing Sean's affair, she puts both her hands on her forehead. But when the camera switches angle to Sean, we only see Julia's left hand on her face
• Goof: In the scene with Grace, Sean, and Sassy's Psychologist, Sean has a bead of sweat on the end of his nose in some shots but not in others.
• Music:
“Hot Legs” by Rod Stewart (Montana/Sassy “cankle” surgery)
• Music:
“Poison Arrow” by ABC (Maria’s heroin-filled breast implant removal surgery)
“Drive” by The Cars (Sean & Christian meet Escobar to pay him off at pancake/coffee house)
“I Wear My Sunglasses at Night” by Corey Hart (Sean, Christian, & Liz meet Escobar at hotel to remove Antonia Ramos’ implants)
• Music:
“She Blinded Me With Science” by Thomas Dolby (Heroin breast implant removal surgery)
““Baby” by Koop (Christian/Kimber/Bobolit at Bobolit’s house)
“Freaky (To You)” by Sweet Stuff (Christian/Gina have “labor-inducement” sex)
“Cars” by Gary Neuman (Sean goes to Escobar’s to kill him)
“Rapture” by Blondie (Sean’s post-attempt to kill Escobar/Escobar asks for new face)
“Wild World” by Cat Stevens (Sean in hotel/Julia comes to get back together)
“Following” by Chungking (McNamara’s/Christian having dinner at ending)
“Machine Gun” by Commodores (Escobar gets busted at airport by FBI w/’new’ face of Jorge Barco)
• Real Life Comparison: Escobar's surgery is loosely based on the surgery of Amado Carrillo Fuentes. He was a powerful drug dealer. In July 1997, he died while having plastic surgery to drastically alter his face so he could disappear.
• Julia finds out the results of Matt's paternity test.
• Goof: After Sean pulls the gun on Escobar you can see him going to again in the mirror.
• Goof: On the FBI Ten Most Wanted List, Escobar's nationality and place of birth are listed as "Columbia." Of course, it should be "Colombia."

• The previous two goofs should not be considered errors. The first one is evidence that the show's chronology is not the same as "actual" time. The second is at best an error on the part of the characters, and look at it this way: if the police had arrested the man whose face Gallardo had, then Gallardo would be free living in Colombia, and would still not be around to plague McNamara and Troy.
• What if the Feds caught the actual criminal that Christian and Shawn made him out to look like?
• How did Gina suddenly go from being just recently pregnant to nine months pregnant?
• The Miami Herald newspaper that Christian was reading was in an older format than the current one.
